Obsession in the Outer Harbor of Cuttyhunk
as seen from our favorite anchor spot.
Our trip to Block Island included the obligatory Mudslides and Sushi, with a walk into Old Harbor and a taxi ride home.
Oldport Launch made our stay a drier one, no long, wet dinghy rides from the anchorage. Instead, a mooring close to the Oar and launch service.
Two nights and we were headed back to Newport. On the way home we heard reports of a dead whale floating in Rhode Island Sound. We sailed close enough to it to get some pictures as well as noting the gps coordinates to report its location to the Coast Guard. Several days later it floated up on the rocks at Beavertail Point. Mystic Aquarium will perform a necropsy to determine the cause of death.
Back in Newport we accomplished the procrastinated tasks of laundry, and figuring out the problem with the aft head. Again, David was able to problem solve and together we managed to get it unclogged so we can pee and poop again!! Still considering an electric, freshwater head, but for now this is working fine.
Kenny and Perrin (also our favorite launch drivers) are frequent dinner guests, we enjoy their company and hearing about their impromptu trips to Jamestown, and up the bay. We are thrilled to see them enjoying Perrin's boat/home.
A quick trip to the Cape to see David's cousin Barbara, her husband, daughter and grandson. It was a cold and miserably foggy day on the Cape, but a different experience for them, for sure.
Another trip to Cuttyhunk and finally the Cafe was open, the Raw Bar delivered, and Mother Nature provided us with one of her finest weather shows. Rain, wind, and cloud formations. Luckily, we escaped the brunt of the storm. There were reports of hail in Newport.
The blue dot is where we were-Cuttyhunk.
Our Friends from The Landing that hosted us to watch Patriots' games with all winter "boarded" Obsession bringing joy and laughter to a beautiful evening on the harbor.
We definitely have a need to travel. So we headed back to Cuttyhunk. We met up with Perrin who was delivering a launch to Edgartown. After commandeering David and Perrin to gather wood I packed up hot dogs and s'mores ingredients for a fun cookout on the spit.
We are now in Martha's Vineyard. We had planned to be back in Newport today in time for 3 nights of fireworks, but 25-30mph winds from the SW have us hunkered down in Lagoon Pond until tomorrow or Sunday.
The NEW AND IMPROVED
Lagoon Pond Bascule Bridge
So our alternate plan is to head to Edgartown where we will watch the Parade and Fireworks there before heading back to Newport to prepare for another 8-10 day excursion to possibly another of our favorite "Islands in the Sun", Shelter Island.
