THE THANKSGIVING SONG

Over the river and through the swamps

To St. Mary’s we will go

Aquamap shows the way

So Obsession won’t stray into shallow murky mud.

Over the river and through the swamps

Steering carefully as we go

The winds and the rain have been nasty this year

Causing many a Creek to shoal

Over the river and down the creeks on the ICW we’ll go

With a strong tide flow and a high one at that we’ll hopefully avoid any trap.

Over the river and through the swamps

Oh, how the sun does shine

It warms our hearts and makes us smile

the further south we go.

Over the river and through the swamps

No snow for us you see

We’re headed south

And soon we’ll be

In the Florida Keys

Over the river and through the swamps

How happy we will be

To bask in the sun

And swim in the  azure blue seas.

Over the river and through the swamps

Such colorful sights we see

Red, pink and blue

The houses are pretty

Except when Mother Nature’s not pleased

Over the river and through the swamps to B & B Seafood we go.

Annette and Billie were mighty fine hosts

We bought fresh shrimp right off their boat.

Over the river and through the swamps

it’s duck hunters we do see.

With camouflage and and guns

they may shoot

Their dinner for Thanksgiving day.

Over the river and through the bridge

to Skull Creek we will go

The sun is shining, the sky is blue

and we are so happy too.

Over the river and down the creeks

For Thanksgiving dinner with friends.

Not old friends, but new,

and they’re boaters too

Thanks to all who

helped make this come true.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

WRITERS’ BLOCK PICS ONLY

Sunset Beaufort, NC (Bo-fort). We were on anchor that night.
Sunset, Beaufort (Bo-fort) NC. We were on anchor.

For some reason I can’t settle on a theme for this post. So I’ll resort to
everyone’s favorite-PICTURES. After all, they are worth a thousand words. I hope you  enjoy our past week’s travels.

Sunset Beaufort, NC from Homer Smith Marina.

Passing by Camp LeJeune Artillery Fire all afternoon. (Good thing I don’t suffer from PTSD)

Anchored in Mile Hammock-Ospreys practicing touch and goes all evening and into the night.

Sunset Carolina Beach. A keeper. Can’t wait to go back. Met up with Kenny Tysor and had a delicious dinner. A real summer/vacation community.

Thankfully the current was WITH US as we traveled from Carolina Beach to Southport.  See how the buoys are leaning?

And a Redhead spotting. (Formerly Billy Joel’s boat, now Jeff Siegal (Ative Captain) in Southport, NC.

Myrtle Beach Yacht Club and Officers Club where we met up with our friend Carol Chace.

Sunrise at a secluded anchorage at Butler Island. Only one other boat. A Catalina 36.

South Carolina’s  answer to Edgartown’s On Time Ferries to Chappaquiddick. A floating swing bridge.

‘em are duck hunters. We woke up this morning to gunshots!

Sunset and sunrise Awandaw Creek. Couldn’t get a picture of the stars that night. But I can say I’ve never seen so many stars. A beautiful, secluded anchorage. We will return in the spring.

I’m assuming this is a Scout Camping weekend. They were cooking breakfast over an open fire.

A week of our travels in pictures.
And lastly, a sunset  from St John’s Yacht Harbor, Charleston, SC.

FRIDAY NIGHT THANKYOUS

Friday Night Thank you Notes is one of the regular spots that Jimmy Fallon shares on Friday nights. Like me his writers probably start thinking far in advance for one line zingers that make us either laugh or groan. I’ve been working on this blog for a few weeks now. Let’s hope it gets published before mid-night tonight.

THANK YOU Navionics and  Aquamap Mobile Apps for helping us navigate through difficult areas. And now that Bob423 has downloaded his tracks to Aquamap it’s as if he has left a trail of breadcrumbs for us to follow. (BTW-our 1996 technology Garmin 2010C at the helm is still holding her own).

THANK YOU Rachel’s Bakery in Washington, and RE Mayo along Adams Creek Canal for providing us with yummy breakfast pastries and absolutely the most delicious shrimp (with heads) and crab balls. And I can’t forget Blackbeard’s Slices and Ices in Bath where we had our first pizza in over 2 months!

THANK YOU bridges with height boards to tell us whether we will fit under the bridge or not. I’d hate to find out too late that our mast is too tall.

THANK YOU Ospreys in Beaufort flying low near the bridge,  and the helicopters in Mile Hammock practicing touch and go (even at night) and the artillery fire all afternoon as we traveled the borders of Camp Le June.

THANK YOU Adams Creek for some of the most interesting sights so far along the waterway. Still no alligators, and only a few dolphins.

THANK YOU Beaufort, NC (BO FORT) for being such a welcoming town to visit, shop and enjoy a delicious lunch with Cousin Bill and Jane.

THANK YOU sunrise for always rising in the east. And therefore making it tough to see when you are leaving an anchorage on the west side of the ICW.

THANK YOU sunset for interrupting our dinner hour every night.

We have much to be thankful for, our health, our friends and family who are following our travels, the friendly and helpful people we have met so far on our trip, and this beautiful country that we live in that allows us the freedom opportunity and privilege to travel and visit with family and friends.
